The NORMANTHIIA project is part of the Artificial Intelligence roadmap of the Call for Expressions of Interest “Skills and Jobs of the Future”. As such, NORMANTHIIA is funded by the France 2030 investment plan implemented by the French Government and managed by the French National Research Agency (ANR). The Normandy Region will also contribute to this project.
An ambitious and inclusive programme
The goal of the NORMANTHIIA project is to create a multidisciplinary, region-based academic offer in artificial intelligence for all levels (Bachelor, Master, Doctorate), specialists and non-specialists. The project aims to train in artificla intelligence more than 700 students in Master’s or Engineering schools and more than 2,500 students in University Bachelor of Technology or Bachelor’s degree.
Concrete actions for a strong territorial impact
The project is led and coordinated by the University of Caen Normandy, in collaboration with several partners: the University of Rouen Normandy, the University of Le Havre Normandy, the National Graduate School of Engineering of Caen (ENSICAEN, the French acronym for “Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Ingénieurs de Caen”), the National Institute of Applied Sciences of Rouen (INSA Rouen Normandy, the French acronym for “Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Rouen Normandie”), and the Graduate School of Engineering in Smart Systems and Electrical Engineering (ESIGELEC, the French acronym for “École Supérieure d’IngénieursenGénieElectrique”).
The consortium aims to implement the following actions:
- Increase the capacities of training programmes specialised in artificial intelligence (Master’s / Engineering schools)
- Combine artificial intelligence programmes with other fields in order to train professionals in AI and another speciality
- Provide trainings in artificial intelligence for University Bachelors of Technology and Bachelor’s degrees)
- Develop a training pathway to prepare students for research in artificial intelligence
- Introduce artificial intelligence courses into non-specialised programmes (law, marketing, chemistry, management…)
- Familiarise Bachelor’s students with AI
- Create a university diploma in Artificial Intelligence and Data, offered through continuing education
- Introduce artificial intelligence courses within doctoral schools
- Create artificial intelligence resources for mathematics and computer science teachers
- Create a MOOC dedicated to artificial intelligence literacy and lifelong education.
The University of Caen, a key player
The University of Caen Normandy contributes directly in all these actions with around twenty training programmes, available in both full-time and/or continuing education and involving several faculties and schools (the Faculty of Sciences, the Graduate School of Engineering of Normandy the Faculty of Law, Economic and Social Administration and Public Administration, the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences, the Institute of Business Administration, and the Grand Ouest Normandy University Institute of Technology.
Each training programme benefits from resources, allowing to expand courses (integrate of new students), createnew courses (notably in disciplinary artificial intelligence) and of new training programmes, while integrating innovative teaching methods.
A committed local and national ecosystem
The strong support from the local socio-economic ecosystem (Normandy Region, Airbus, Safran, Renault, Vinci, DATALAB…) as well as a diverse range of partners will help provide concrete solutions to the training challenges identified by the French Government as part of the National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence.
