Multiple faculties for excellence studies

The Sciences Faculty

The Sciences Faculty, part of The University of Caen Normandy, offers a variety of scientific programmes in fundamental and applied sciences, as well as in science outreach, in Caen (Campus 1 and 2) and in Cherbourg.

The Sciences Faculty offers numerous advantages for those who wish to receive solid scientific training, with programmes tailored to meet the needs of each student:

  • Bachelor’s (three-year degree), Master’s (five-year degree) and Doctorate’s (eight-year degree)
  • Professional programmes, such as professional bachelor’s degrees

The Sciences Faculty hosts several renowned research units such as the GREYC (Research Group in Computer Science, Image and Instrumentation of Caen) or the CRISMAT (a transdisciplinary laboratory at the interface between Solid-state chemistry, Material sciences and Solid-state physics), conducting excellence works in artificial intelligence, advanced materials and fundamental sciences.

The Sciences Faculty of The University of Caen Normandy is part of a European (Erasmus+) and international cooperation networks (international exchanges).

These partnerships offer students in Caen opportunities to study abroad, and to benefit from collaborations with international university researchers and professors.

Our cooperation agreements cover both education and research. 

The IUT (University Institute of Technology) Grand Ouest Normandie

The main mission of the IUT (University Institute of Technology) Grand Ouest Normandie, faculty of The University of Caen Normandy, is to offer career-oriented programmes tailored to regional and national socioeconomic needs. With 7 campuses across Normandy (Alençon, Caen, Ifs, Lisieux, Vire, Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, Saint-Lô), the IUT trains around 3,000 students each year in a wide range of specialities.

The IUT Grand Ouest Normandie offers numerous programmes in a variety of fields: business, multimedia, biology, energy as well as networks and telecommunications. To meet the specific needs of companies, these programmes are also available through vocational bachelor’s degrees and continuing education. A strong emphasis is placed on apprenticeships and work-study programmes, ensuring direct immersion of students in the professional world.

The IUT has technological platforms, spaces dedicated to practical work, and high-performance digital tools.

With over 73 partner companies and 500 industry professionals, the IUT Grand Ouest Normandie provides students with privileged access to internships, work-study programmes and job opportunities. These partnerships are strengthened by events such as job fairs and collaborative projects.

The IUT promotes the internationalisation of its programmes, allowing students to benefit from exchange programmes such as Erasmus, internships abroad or cultural events to explore new horizons.

The core of innovation: digital services

CEMU (University Multimedia Teaching Centre)

The University Multimedia Teaching Centre (CEMU) is the pedagogical support service of The University of Caen Normandy. The CEMU offers a wide range of digital services: assisting teaching staff with designing online courses, creating multimedia learning resources and integrating innovative teaching methods. With modern recording studios and digital tools such as learning platforms and MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), the CEMU) supports continuing education and the development of digital literacy.

La Forge numérique

The Forge numérique is a digital space for multimedia productions of the Social Sciences Research House (MRSH) at University of Caen Normandie.

The Forge numérique enables on-demand access to conferences, reaching 15,000 listeners instead of the 100seat capacity of the room. The partnership with France Culture, Canal U, the Visio platform channel of the national Social Sciences House (MSH) network contributes to this distribution within the academic world and to the general public.
